Understanding Echolalia in Autism and How to Support Your Adult Child

Echolalia is one of the most common communication traits in autism. At JoyDew, we don't treat it as a problem, we build on it as a bridge to meaningful expression.

Winter from a snowman’s POV

Jacob Melker

1/6/2025

Well, winter is here again and I have been built up once again! However, living in the same yard every holiday season (well, until I melt), is getting a bit repetitive. So this year I thought I would go see the other snowmen that live around the rest of the neighborhood.

All I do first is wait for my builder to leave and then I am free to roll out of the yard and towards the sidewalk, stop at many, many houses and make a lot of new friends.

One of these snowmen was very well-made and I fell in love with her. I thought it was the most beautiful snowman I had ever met. We talked together for about an hour and then moved on to another house to find another friend. From now on, I will always stop at that house so I can visit her every winter!

By the time the day ended, I had met over 25 snowmen all over my neighborhood, and a lot of them I will always remember until they are rebuilt next winter, then I can go visit the friends I like the most! Finally, I rolled back to the yard where I was built and was stuck with lots of memories when I melted. Even though they also melted at the end of the season, they will always be rebuilt every winter so I can continue this tradition for many years to come!
