It was an exciting week at JoyDew! Our autistic members in the Radiology Training Program are celebrating the installation of four new medical-grade mammography workstations, secure PACS servers, and DICOM-compliant imaging software.
This state-of-the-art equipment allows members to train in an environment that closely mirrors real-world radiology settings while learning breast cancer pre-screening techniques using the same types of tools found in the healthcare industry. Even more exciting, the new workstations will enable JoyDew to expand the program to serve up to 20 autistic adults, creating more opportunities for meaningful careers.
"I love and believe in my son, but I wasn't sure he would ever be able to work, let alone in such an exciting and challenging field," shared the parent of one of our members.
Unfortunately, this uncertainty is all too common. After repeated job disappointments, many autistic adults and their families begin to believe that meaningful careers are out of reach or settle for work that doesn't reflect their true abilities.
At JoyDew, we believe the opposite.
Our innovative Workforce Development Program is built on recognizing and developing autistic strengths rather than focusing on limitations. Many autistic individuals possess remarkable attention to detail, visual analysis skills, pattern recognition, memory, logical thinking, and the ability to hyperfocus. These qualities are highly valued in medical imaging, cybersecurity, graphic design, quality assurance, data analysis, and many other fields.
When people are provided with the right environment, the right tools, and the right support, they don't just participate…they thrive.
We are deeply grateful to the generous anonymous donor whose capital grant made this equipment possible. Your investment is helping autistic adults build meaningful careers, greater independence, and brighter futures. Learn more about JoyDew and our innovative programs HERE!
