Message for future members of JoyDew

Jacob Melker

Hello, my name is Jacob Melker and I am here to provide a bit of info about my experience with JoyDew to prepare future members

What I would say to any new member who joins is: this is a wonderful place where Autism gets the respect it deserves! The way things are taught are guaranteed to put you in a good mood and listen to the assignments every time!

I have been at JoyDew for 5 and a half years now, and I can tell you I have enjoyed it. This is a place where ANY person with Autism can get a good learning experience, friends and topics that are easy to understand. Everyone gets a chance to read a slide during every lesson. We also have a Halloween party and a holiday sing along every year!

In my words, JoyDew has a great impact on the community because it gives people with Autism the education they need, and also an environment that will never cause them to get anxious or uncomfortable instantly. They also use a simple teaching format so there won’t be too much frustration.

So that’s JoyDew in my point of view and I hope you will decide to join someday! You’ll enjoy being there!!!

I am the youngest member of JoyDew (24) and I have Autism. I have a phenomenal memory and quick reaction timing. I have been with JoyDew for four years and have always been able to communicate because I am verbal. I like supercars and EDM music, can recite stories and songs after hearing them only a few times, and can do great impressions of character voices.

About JoyDew

JoyDew transforms the brutal reality of people with autism from being treated as a commodity, living in isolation and without hope, into flourishing human beings with lifelong friends, who can express themselves and apply their unique talents and skills to succeed in the workplace. Our day program identifies their unique strengths and interests, develops them with job training and academic enrichment, provides communication and other supports, and creates high-level employment for people with autism, without exception, where they can learn and grow in a community of their own, and unleash their hopes and dreams.
