If you missed it this weekend, JoyDew Foundation’s COO, Karen Millican joined Steve Adubato on ThinkTank with Steve Adubato, airing on NJ PBS; Thirteen WNET New York and #News12+.  The conversation focused on three of the most urgent and emotional topics facing families like ours: housing, employment, and social support for adults with autism.

At JoyDew, we know that adulthood doesn’t mean support should disappear. In fact, this is when the right support matters more than ever.

  • Employment- We believe meaningful employment starts with focusing on strengths, not limitations. When paired with autism-friendly higher education and job training, adults across the spectrum can thrive in high-value, 21st-century careers, with purpose, dignity, and independence.
  • Housing  - Safe, supported housing must be more than just a place to live. It should be thoughtfully designed with autism-specialized staff, modern safety technology, and environments that respect sensory and motor planning needs. This model not only improves quality of life, it helps prevent the heartbreaking abuse and neglect too many families fear.
  • Social Life- Connection matters. Organized, age-appropriate social opportunities reduce loneliness, build communication skills, and create real friendships…something everyone deserves.

And let’s not forget you, theparents. You deserve guidance, tools, and a trusted network to help navigate the complex adult services system, and to have peace of mind about your child’s future.
