Understanding Echolalia in Autism and How to Support Your Adult Child

Echolalia is one of the most common communication traits in autism. At JoyDew, we don't treat it as a problem, we build on it as a bridge to meaningful expression.

The other person in the room

My name is Gil. I am unable to speak but I am a great typer. I have autism but it doesn’t mean that I am not smart. I want to become a radiology assistant and a journalist. Please join us at JoyDew, the more friends the better!

Gil 6.14.2023 I think taking perspective is really thinking about the other person in the room. I think it is about being nice because it shows that you are caring. But you know it is not the easy thing to do. It is the thing that I strive for.

Yes I think we are here to do the thinking the right way. This means that we can’t ignore what is going on around me. I think that the hard time to take perspective is when I am in pain in the red zone. My mom wants to help me but sometimes she can’t because I just need to take some space and drink some water to feel calm.

My mom and dad think that I am very smart and funny. They think I am the best radiology assistant. My brother is Tal. He thinks I am the best brother and friend even though we don’t always get along everyday. We can take perspective and this can help my family and all my friends at JoyDew.
