Autism SmartTM Living

When adults on the spectrum move out of their parents’ houses, they usually end up either in Low Quality Group Homes, or in “Golden Cages” if their parents are very wealthy.

It is a parent’s worst nightmare to send their child to a New Jersey group home, where abuse and neglect is well-known and widespread, and approximately 120 people die unexpectedly each year that live in state-licensed settings such as group homes and supervised apartments. 50 cases since 2013 were people with developmental disabilities who died amid alarming questions about their care and supervision.

When JoyDew’s housing opens next year, it will be staffed with well-paid, highly motivated autism experts who will ensure our members’ joyful living, and there will be zero tolerance for abuse and neglect.

Located close to town centers, our state-of-the-art facilities will be safe, secure, and include private living quarters and shared community spaces.

In addition to organized social activities after day program hours, all our units will be connected virtually to allow residents to communicate with each other socially, and with their families. We will also leverage technology with independent, continuous oversight to ensure the safety and dignity of all residents.

Finally, JoyDew believes that stakeholder-driven decision making is critical to the ongoing success of our organization. Residents and families will be regularly asked to provide input and make decisions regarding the locations, spaces, programming, support and other matters that affect their quality of life.
