Applying Autism Advantages to Build Employment

Sep 9, 2015 | News

Auto Transcript:

JoyDew was founded because I have two sons with autism approaching age 21. Like most parents of young adults with autism, we faced the urgent need to find them employment, education, and social opportunities as they exited the school system. JoyDew is an organization that believes these young adults have unique abilities. We created a workplace where they can develop careers and build social connections in a supportive, friendly environment. Once we identify their strengths, we match them with high-value jobs, allowing them to provide services to other companies. We train them, support them with tools and services, and ensure they have a sustainable, lifelong workplace. Having achieved this in other settings, we are confident we can do it again here. After students leave school at age 21, there are limited opportunities, and as the number of individuals with autism post-21 increases rapidly, the need for quality programs grows significantly. Many individuals with autism have skills that can be developed and matched to employment opportunities, enabling them to make meaningful contributions, particularly in our rapidly evolving society. By creating environments that embrace their strengths, designing learning programs that tap into their abilities, and partnering with employers to match needs, we aim to unlock their incredible potential. For many, the dream is to have a job, a home, and a life free of fear, and JoyDew strives to provide these opportunities, allowing young adults with autism to achieve their goals and improve their lives.
